USDA-ARS, Ames, Iowa - IT Support Specialist

As the lead developer and web designer for I develop and integrate the back-end and front-end technologies required by the soybean research community.  In this role I primarily make use of PHP, MySQL, Javascript, AJAX and CSS running on a GNU/Linux/Apache stack.  My work also requires integration of complex data pipelines that include a number of technologies and languages such as Perl, R, and NoSQL.  Providing technical support and guidance in the development of the USDA’s collective online resources pertaining to crop field data, bioinformatics data and experiment-specific data is an additional component of my role.  In addition, I am a charter member of a national, agency-wide effort to advise on the usage of agency resources in leveraging Big Data and process improvement at an agency level.
